Educational level among religious and atheist? Now I was curious as to whether the posters here could state their highest educational level (and in what as well) and also their religious (or nonreligious) beliefs. I'm doing this for various reasons but also to see if the frequent claims that the religious are unintelligent are founded (which I doubt as I personally know many intelligent religious (doctors)). I'm having a hard time finding a study I once saw that showed the amount of each religious faith in different levels of education, but if anyone has a link to that study it would be nice. For myself, I am an atheist and have taken 5 years of university, 1 year prepharmacy and 4 years pharmacy, and am currently employed as a pharmacist. I also did take 8 months in college to get a certificate for pharmacist technician (waste of time and money). Yourself? @Elliot I am well aware. It is just that I get to know a fair amount of doctors in my work and a lot of them are fairly intelligent. True, some aren't, but the majority of them are.

What happens when engaging activities learning does not transfer to test results? I teach high school geometry to regular to low level students at a low-income inner city school. I've been using the Kagan cooperative learning techniques, games, making posters, etc. to teach math concepts, but the learning doesn't transfer to better test scores. I've had my AP and other education experts observe my class, and they all say they loved how the kids are learning. I do see slight improvements like less than 10%, but not nearly the level of improvements that will increase the school ratings, etc. I get about 20% of my students falling asleep during tests because they are only used to the engaging activities. And I get another 40% who can't sit still and guess. The ultimate purpose is for the kids to do better on the state test, but how do you train the students to take tests? Anybody ever experienced this? That is you as a teacher are doing what the educational experts suggests and it doesn't seem to work. We teachers end up getting blamed for our teaching.

What should be done about random postings in the special education section? Special education involves servicing students with disabilities. The term special education is distinct than either the word special or the word education alone. This category is being used as a dumping ground for every comment that someone can't think were to put in 2 seconds. Every question these posters have is considered "special" by them. Every question that they have they also consider "educational." Therefore, they feel justified in putting EVERY question under special education. The clutter is making it almost unusable for those interested in the teaching career field of special education. My recommendation: Have Yahoo Answers change the heading from "Special Education" to "Special Education of Stdents with Disabilities." What do you think of this solution? Do you have other recommendations for Yahoo Answers about this problem? Thanks to Big Mouth for the "good idea" evaluation. I would prefer not to categorize all the people using Yahoo Answers into one group and make generalizations about their lack of intelligence. We are user here, too. Even if large numbers of users ignored the clarified headings, some would likely read them. I think of it as traffic signs. They may not help, but they can't -- and for those that care to use them they can be beneficial. :-D I just looked up the current first pages of some Yahoo Answers pages. The astronomy page had 20 entries, all of them related to astronomy. The biology page also had 100% related to the topic heading, although one had possible racists undertones about the differences between black and white people. In contrast, the special education section had postings about humming or singing in the bathtub, the meaning of god killer, computer programming, future telling, radio broadcasting, certificates of deposit, ceramic materials in aerospace, zodiac signs, MBA degrees, and only one posting about students with disabilities. This is the difference that I was referring to in my original post, when I ask what can be done to help make sure there is a better correlation between the heading and the postings. One out of 20 is a very weak correlation. I have waded through several pages without a single posting related to the field of education or disabilities. I have seen individuals who had previously posted some thoughtful posts on these subjects, with sources, seemingly disappear from Yahoo Answers. In the meantime, the number of racial slurs, sexist comments, advertising, chatting, etc. have increased especially under the heading of special education. It is apparent that more than a few users “don't think anything needs to be done about it. It's not really a problem.” This leads me to wonder, if we adopt that view, why do we need any headings at all? If we stress “freedom of speech,” including racial slurs, etc., without calling for any responsibility on the part of the users or management by this forum, then why not just let everybody post everything into one big heading? I have to agree that Yahoo! Answers is a public forum. However, I am not sure if “the door is wide open to whoever wants to post, including the rude offensive.” I am concerned that few, if any, will ultimately want to post the type of “quality” answers that would “stand out” in such a setting. One of the reasons that I took the position that special education means special education of students with disabilities is because it comes under the broader heading of Education. Also the other subgroups tend to support my position, including: Financial Aid, Higher Education (University +), Home Schooling, Homework Help, Preschool, Primary & Secondary Education, Standards & Testing, Studying Abroad, and Teaching. To me those headings, all affiliated under Education, sound like formal educational institutions to me. My definition of special education fits with those. Fortune telling does not. In response to Maria’s post. I am hesitant to judge another’s “tone” in an online setting as there are no voices used here. However, words like “selfish,” “self-serving,” “(your) control issues” and “(your) anger issues” are prima face personal attacks. If the term "Special Education" has another meaning to you other than something involving students with disabilities, you could have put that forth, but chose not to. Instead you opted to attack my opinion and my character. Ironically, you assaulted me for not allowing others to have their opinion, while at the same time denying me a right to have mine. I had no idea that a simple question on how we can improve this forum for the benefit of those with disabilities and those that work with them would be found to be objectionable. I am not sure how even a qualified psychologist could diagnose my personality defects by a posted question here. I do believe that your statement that I am a danger to myself and to others is a libelous and illegal statement, unless you have tangible physical evidence to support such a claim. Why am I dangerous? For asking how we can help those with disabilities have a voice here? How is that threatening to you or anyone else? Nor did I ever conceive that sharing my opinion here would elicit false accusations about actions that I reportedly made. You state “I also see that you have already had two answers from other users yanked, since they are no longer visible here yet show in the total count.” That is one explanation, and a false one. I could pose at least three other theories as to why the posts and the count are not the same. Let me assure you, it was not at my request. You jumped to a false conclusion. Besides, I don’t think that Yahoo Answers “yanks” people’s posts simply because they have a different opinion. They are removed because they violated some rule. As long as you obey the rules and try to address the question, instead of attacking other people’s character, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Unfortunately, in the process of declaring the assumed right to say and do anything here (albeit while attacking others for exercising a similar right), you have contributed nothing to the question itself. As I indicated above, other headings I cited have either a 95% or a 100% on-topic rate, while the special education heading is overpowered by topics not related to schooling or disabilities to less than a 5% on-topic rate. Whats the deal with Home School Parents? I am interested in the subject of home schooling, and posted one question, and gave my opinion on a few others. What I found is that the parents that home educate are more insanely dedicated to their cause than any other cause that I have encountered in my lifetime (including right to lifeers, PETA, vegans, and most of all my uncle Chet. What disturbed me was that there was zero openness about any educational benefits outside of home education. There was also a consensus among posters in that group that there are no downsides to home education. Is this a panic attack? So Im 14. I have never EVER felt like this before. I was in math today, and all of a sudden I feel like life might be one big dream. I start thinking, "this whole world is fake. What might be this desk, might actually be a hot stove in another deminson.". I start freaking out. My heart rate bumps up and I start breathing really fast. I find a way to make it go away for a few seconds, looking at those educational posters and reading the letters on them quietly out loud. My freind Nikko sees me and laughs and thinks Im kidding. I look at him and zone out. This whole time I am having butterflys, dizziness, and confusion. I cant focus. I just end up going to the nurse. She checks my pulse. 100 beats per minute. My blood pressure was high too but i dont know its exact numbers. She lets me sleep in there for about an hour. Just as i start to fall asleep, I twitch and wake myself up. I am also very cold this whole entire time. I have a warm tingling sensation behind my ears and on my cheeks. She comes back and checks it again. It is back down. My heart rate is still high though. I come home and sleep and here I am. I still feel it a little but no where NEAR as bad. Its coming back a little bit now though. Im thinking, "I am dreaming this whole thing. I will soon wake up". I know this isnt a good place to ask about health, but someone help! Im scared. Am I going crazy? I havent got a whole lot of sleep lately, and I'm on two basketball teams, and weightlifting for football. Someone please tell me Im not going insane..... I hate myself right now. Im afraid people think Im pshyco now.... ugh/

Humans, of any color and bone structure, share an almost identical genome, and the only group that has a distinctive of "full" genome structure are some Black Africans--as they are the original humans. In fact, if anything, Blacks are more capable of a wider pallet of abilities than any other group, but that's besides the point. If such an intellectual gap existed, Black geniuses, of which there are several: Melvin Williams, Elise Tan Roberts, W.E.B du Bois, Randall Pinkett, Ronald Mallet, would be non-existent AA is meant to force integration into jobs, housing, and educational opportunities, because history has shown as that, if whites are left to their own discretions, they will never concede an inch of power. Please read my conclusion for science fair? Does gender affect short-term memory? The result of this experiment shows that gender does indeed affect short-term memory. This supports the hypothesis that stated that gender would affect short-term memory. Out of the 25 words the various participants were given to remember in this experiment, females, on average, remembered 14 words, which is 56%. The male average was 9 words, which is 36% of the words. These results alone show a relationship between gender and short-term memory. To extend this experiment, many different variables could be tested. An interesting way to do this experiment would be to use a large poster board with all of the words written on it instead of using individual pieces of paper. An interesting experiment might be the effect of music on short-term memory. Testing if certain age groups remembered more than others would be another idea of how to extend this experiment. In the past years we had a several environmental projects intended for raising of the awareness of the youths from the villages. The topics were: recycling, composting, natural and socio-economic values of the mountains and etc. The last one, named “We live in Merton” was run during this summer. We worked with school children where the population is multiethnic: Tunisian, Arabian and Algerian. We prepared an educational brochures and posters in 3 languages: Tunisian and Algerian beyond Arabian. Teaching them how to respect the environment and the different ethnicities is a fundamental step in the diffusion of good behaviours and a key-factor in the development of a respectful way of thinking.

Ideas for an abortion project? I have to do an abortion project for my social justice class for school. Should I have said something? My English teacher today introduced an assignment. (We're currently reading Things Fall Apart and at the part where the missionaries begin to infiltrate). Anyways, so the assignment was: Create a poster/advertisement to convince the Ibo people to convert to Christianity. I felt this assignment was really disrespectful and discriminatory. We would have gotten more educational value out of researching the Ibo people's religion and discuss why it was so important to the Christians to have converts. Should I have said something to her? Is it just me, or as you are reading these questions, you come across people who are horrendous spellers, can't speak coherently or just can't present a question somewhat clearly? I'm not trying to make myself sound "superior" or "condescending" or anything, but has anyone else noticed the lack of at least simple linguistics in a vast majority of question posters? Sure, some of the questions posted are idiotic to begin with, but that can be expected. Some are just for fun and pointless, no big deal. But when people spell weigh "way" and lose "loose" or make a sentence presented in English seem like its being written by a foreigner, let alone a different language, it makes me cringe. Is America's educational system truly this bad? Maybe I'm just over analyzing. Yes, it is one of the most important problems the world faces today. Poor education leads to the degradation of society. Not taking the time to properly communicate with others shows a lack of respect for yourself as well. It's like dressing in beach clothes and flipflops when going to an interview. January 29, 2009 {Name} Kansas State Legislature 300 SW 10th St Topeka, KS 66612 Dear Representative, With the Black Monday announcement by Sprint about laying off 8000 workers, adding to the 70,000 laid off that day, and the nearly 700,000 laid off in the last seven months, I should like to bring to your attention an additional problem. A problem that will grow out of the increasing layoffs, not only in Kansas, but throughout the country. A problem that in the coming months and years, will result in many of those laid off facing criminal charges for something they believe they have little control over. As workers are laid off, the first thing they do is head down to the unemployment office. Upon entering the office, among the usual postings for jobs, job training, etc., are Wanted Posters for deadbeat dads. Upwards of 25% of men being laid off are under some type of child support order, and with being laid off, they are going to find it hard to make their payments. They cannot afford to hire an attorney to get a modification and are left wondering what to do? What they have not been taught is that under the Federal Public Law 12, passed in 1989, when federally backed child support enforcement programs were established, a provision of the law was that Child Support Enforcement is required to represent EITHER parent, upon request, for an increase OR decrease in child support. The men need only contact the CSE office and make the request, right after filing for unemployment, and getting the form showing how much they will receive. As an alternative to this, their County Clerk of The Court Office has forms for modifying child support that can be filed Pro Se. This can be a little more intimidating, but can be quicker than going through CSE. An educational brochure on this, can distributed through the Unemployment Office, companies laying off workers, and even unions. Also, a link, with the information, needs to be placed on the Kansas Unemployment Insurance System web site. If this doesn't get done, there's going to be unnecessary expenditures by the courts and count prosecutors to enforce orders that these men are finding it impossible to pay.
